In Support of Dementia Australia

Health statistics show that dementia is the single largest cause of disability in Australians over the age of 65 years and is also the second leading cause of death in Australia. It is thought that by 2025 we will have about 536,000 Australians with dementia and about 1,100,000 by 2056.

Some of us may have a family member or know of someone with dementia and have sadly seen the very severe and negative impact on their life. Over a period of months or years, people living with dementia gradually lose their memory, withdraw from their usual activities, lose their ability to care for themselves and eventually lose interest in life.

The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease and whilst it may be possible to slow the progress of this debilitating illness, medical experts are yet to find the elusive cure and it is important that research and efforts to prevent and cure this illness continue.

With this in mind, StrategyOne has thrown its full support behind a cause closer to home to lend a hand to our fellow Australians who are living with dementia. StrategyOne has teamed up with Dementia Australia, previously known as Alzheimer’s Australia, to raise funds for a very worthy cause. Dementia Australia is the national peak body for people with dementia and their carers and is represented in all Australian states and territories. Through generous financial and other support, Dementia Australia is able to deliver important services such as:

  • Operation of the National Dementia Helpline where people with dementia and supporters can talk to caring and experienced professionals;
  • Living with Memory Loss Programs where people can obtain information and talk confidentially with others in a similar situation;
  • Counselling Program, a free service offered in person, over the telephone or via Skype. Here you can speak with a qualified counsellor who understands the issues involved in facing a diagnosis of dementia.
  • Library and information services which provides access to dementia-related consumer health information and services;
  • Providing Carer Support Groups in metropolitan and regional areas;
  • Assisting many in time of need with education seminars, workshops and programs;
  • Facilitating a social outlet with dementia and connection café programs.

The Dementia Australia Research Foundation is continuously looking into the causes, care, prevention and potential treatments for dementia.

StrategyOne has made a donation so that both Dementia Australia and the Dementia Australia Research Foundation can continue their important work.
